Space Sweepers: Using Robotics & AI to Clear the Path to a Sustainable Future in Space​ By Gonzalo Aquirre, Ph.D.​ (Astroscale Holdings​ / AI Developer​) Abstract: Space is becoming increasingly crowded with satellites and debris (trash), creating new risks for exploration, communications, and life on Earth. Astroscale is working to change the old “use once and abandon” mindset into a more sustainable approach to space development. In this talk, Gonzalo will introduce how robotic systems and machine learning can help spacecraft approach, capture, and service objects in orbit. He will explain some of the technical challenges of operating robots in space, where conditions are uncertain, remote, and unforgiving. Let's learn together how engineering and global collaboration can help protect the future of space. Brief history of the speaker: Gonzalo Aguirre D. is Director of Robotics and Machine Learning at Astroscale, where he helps advance technologies for the secure and sustainable development of space for the benefit of future generations. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from Waseda University, with research focused on safe robotic actuators, and has worked across Japan, Germany, and Mexico. His experience spans robotics, AI, embedded systems, autonomous systems, and international technology development. Before joining Astroscale, he worked at Preferred Networks on AI- driven robotics and machine learning quality assurance. Today, he focuses on bringing advanced robotics and ML closer to real space missions. *Children are welcome in the room, but if they cry or become restless, we kindly ask that you take them out of the room. 宇宙の掃除屋：ロボットとAIで切り開く、持続可能な宇宙の未来 講師：Gonzalo Aquirre 氏（Astroscale Holdings / AI開発者） 概要： 宇宙空間は、衛星やデブリ（宇宙ごみ）が増え続けており、探査や通信、さらには地球上の生活に新たなリスクをもたらしています。アストロスケールは、「使い捨てて放置する」という従来の考え方を変え、より持続可能な宇宙開発を目指しています。 本講演では、ゴンサロ氏がロボット技術と機械学習を活用し、宇宙機が軌道上の物体に接近・捕獲・点検・サービスを行う方法について紹介します。また、不確実で遠隔、かつ過酷な宇宙環境でロボットを運用する際の技術的課題についても解説します。 工学と国際的な協力によって宇宙の未来を守る方法を、ぜひ一緒に学びましょう。 講師について： Gonzalo Aquirre氏は、Astroscaleにてロボティクスおよび機械学習のディレクターを務めており、将来世代のために安全で持続可能な宇宙開発を実現する技術の推進に取り組んでいます。早稲田大学で工学博士号を取得し、安全なロボットアクチュエータに関する研究を行いました。これまでに日本、ドイツ、メキシコでの勤務経験を持っています。 専門分野はロボティクス、AI、組み込みシステム、自律システム、国際的な技術開発など多岐にわたります。Astroscale入社以前はPreferred Networksにて、AI駆動型ロボティクスや機械学習の品質保証に従事していました。現在は、先進的なロボティクスと機械学習を実際の宇宙ミッションへと応用していくことに注力しています。 ※お子様のご入室は可能ですが、泣いたりぐずったりされる場合はご退室いただきますようお願いいたします。
